MORE ABOUT THE EUROPEAN CAPITALS OF CULTURE
Since 1985, the European Union has been selecting each year one or more European Capitals of Culture. The purpose of the initiative is highlighting the richness and diversity of cultures in Europe and the potential of culture for urban sustainable development. Furthermore, when a city is chosen, it also has the chance to raise its profile and to regenerate, thanks to the higher numbers of arrival of tourists and higher media's attention that being the Capital usually implies. 2019's European Capitals of Culture were Matera (Italy) and Plovdiv (Bulgaria). 2020's Capitals are Rijeka (Croatia) and Galway (Ireland).
MORE ABOUT THE "CAPACITY BUILDING FOR EUROPEAN CAPITALS OF CULTURE" PROJECT
The project is a service contract for the European Commission run by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture.
It wants to support capacity building and peer-learning activities for ECoCs. Its aim is providing selected ECoC with practical support where skills gaps have been identified, with a
robust technical assistance structure, a set of tools, materials,
practical and theoretical expertise and knowledge while enhancing
networking opportunities for ECoC organising teams. In order to reach this goal, Academy Camps, toolkits, webinars and MOOCs will be used as ad-hoc tools and activities. The project will also lead to the construction of a repository for for relevant materials (e.g. documents and multimedia). The consortium will begin building the repository up, then users will continue it.
The consortium is made up of the following associations:
Association Européenne pour l’Information sur le Développement Local (AEIDL) – lead partner
Interarts – Fundació Interarts per a la cooperació cultural internacional
European network on cultural management and policy (ENCATC)
