Solidarity in time of COVID-19: ALDA supports 3 crowdfunding initiatives

In its effort to be now, more than ever, a Community of Communities, ALDA believes that the most important value distinguishing a cohesive and active community is solidarity.

In the past few weeks, we have all witnessed the spread of the COVID-19 across Europe, where over 665.778 people have contracted the virus, and 59.508 have died from it. To this end, ALDA has officially started supporting three crowdfunding campaigns, and we’d like to encourage you to do the same, because only together we can defeat the virus.

Our first thought went to Italy, which was hit particularly hard by the virus, as 139.422 people got infected and over 17.669 people died, reason why we decided to support the

ITALIAN CIVIL PROTECTION, which is doing an amazing job helping out the Ministry of Health in arranging new Intensive Care Unit spots for those affected as well as building new emergency hospitals.

Then, in this #StayAtHome period, we clearly have in mind all those who do not have a house: the poor, the homeless, migrants and refugees. With the fundamental idea to #LeaveNobodyBehind, we sustain the following campaigns to bring support in particular to refugees in the Greek Islands and give them the possibility to receive medical support, especially in this moment:

MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERS (MSF) GREECE - The overcrowded and horrific living conditions in the camps on the Greek islands, given the lack of adequate sanitation services and the severely limited medical care, mean that the risk of the virus spreading amongst the inhabitants of the camps is extremely high once they have been exposed; and yet, no emergency plan to protect and treat the inhabitants in case of an outbreak has been put in place.

WOMEN REFUGEE ROUTE: LEAVE NONE BEHIND - Refugees on Lesvos Island are victims of another war. The Centre in Moria, in Lesvos, has the capacity for 3000 people, but it is currently hosting more than 20,000 children, women and men.

Let’s help these organisations, and let’s spread the word in order to raise awareness about these tragedies that are taking place just under our eyes.
